In this JGT video lesson, Davy Mooney considers Herbie Hancock’s “Tell Me a Bedtime Story,” from “Fat Albert Rotunda.” The tune is a fascinating mixture of bluesy melody, sophisticated, sometimes dissonant harmony, and mixed meter.

Mooney discusses the original version, as well as renditions by Robert Glasper, Mark Whitfield and Christian McBride.
