Jazz Guitar Today talks to guitarist Don Felder about his love of jazz, his new album and tour, and playing onstage with Jimmy Page in the front row!
Bob Bakert, editor: When the Eagles wanted to bring a “hard rock” edge to their country rock sound they tapped on a guy that jammed with them backstage in the early days, they called “fingers, Don Felder! The Eagles with Don started pouring out hit after hit with the new edge and I remember distinctly that the guitar parts were exceptional. They “service the song” in a way that had memorable hooks all the while being distinctly rock. Come to find out as you will learn in this video it was Don’s love of jazz that made him want to breath like a horn player and that he was incredibly influenced by the likes of Miles Davis et.al. When I listen to his contributions to the tracks there is no doubt that melody and true singable connection is a huge component of Don’s “voice”…
The story of how he got there is largely revealed in our conversation… Don talks about recording, his composition of the music for “Hotel California”, working with Joe Walsh, performing for and becoming friends with Jimmy Page, on and on!
I hope you enjoy out talk as much as I did… JGT is very proud to bring this compelling interview of Don Felder.
