What Guitarists Can Learn From Trumpeters

Bob Bakert, Editor: I have always been impressed with how trumpeters phrase and develop notes and solos.  They work with the same notes that us guitar players do, but to my ears it just seems different.  So,…what can we learn from the trumpeters? Dave Frackenpohl was my instructor/teacher while I attended GSU.  I asked Dave if he would break down a few lines for us, the curious, to study.  Dave graciously accepted and we are very glad he did.  Check out his first offering with this line from trumpet great Dizzy Gillespie.
