Jazz Guitar Today spotlights improvisational players in the Music City.

Bob Bakert, Editor: For the last few years Little Walter Tube Amps has hosted an endorsee appreciation evening show during Summer NAMM. The list of players included Andy Reiss, Pat Burgeson, Robben Ford, Brent Mason, and many others.

All the warm-ups in the green room contained lots of jazz “language and vocabulary”. I was astonished (and impressed) to find many of these players are huge jazz fans with prodigious chops.  Although some of the players make their living in the studios and concert halls playing a variety of genres, left on their own – they love to play “contemporary improvisational music” or what many call “jazz.”

These are the first of a series of Jazz Guitar Today articles addressing the influence of jazz on players in Nashville.
