Jazz guitarist Vince Lewis continues his JGT Arrangement Series with the number one hit, “Sweet Georgia Brown”.
“Sweet Georgia Brown” is a Jazz Standard written in 1925 by Ben Bernie and Maceo Pincard with lyrics added later by Kenneth Casey. It was actually named for the daughter of Dr. George Thaddeus Brown who was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. The line “Georgia claimed her, Georgia named her” is a reference to this little-known fact. It became a number-one hit for 5 weeks on the popular music charts.
