Ambitious New Album From Trio HLK
Anthropometricks is the new album from Trio HLK: pianist/composer Rich Harrold, 8-string guitarist Ant Law and drummer Rich Kass.
Anthropometricks is the follow up to 2018’s ‘Standard Time’ and marks the beginning of two new exciting creative partnerships, with performances from Indian vocalist Varijashree Venugopal and British Cellist Natalie Clein alongside Dame Evelyn Glennie on Vibraphone, Marimba and other percussion.
The title refers to the (highly encrypted) recomposition of Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie’s “Anthropology” albeit strewn with musical illusions and rhythmic tricks – hence the neology “Anthropometricks”. The title track is the first single and is out now. Trio HLK have developed a unique language, drawn from the most exciting elements of contemporary classical music and jazz. Their compositions play with perceptual ambiguities, using all kinds of rhythmic tricks and sonic illusions.
Anthropometricks captures the evolution the Trio has undergone since the release of their debut album Standard Time, and subsequent extensive international touring – both in the trio format and with long-time collaborator Evelyn Glennie.
