JGT’s Bob Bakert talks to guitarist Rez Abbasi about his new album project.
Bob Bakert: Rez Abbasi is a NYC based guitarist, a composer and musician of the highest order. Rez is a “Pakistan-born American jazz guitarist and producer”. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2021 and voted #1 rising guitarist in the 2013 Downbeat poll…Why didn’t I know about this guy? I’ve rectified that. After learning about Rez, I spent a lot of time just enjoying his music… When I can just sit and listen to music and it suspends me, as my acting coach says, “that’s the gold”! His mbut always giving you a clean landing. The Music is technical but it does not get in the way of the listener on the contrary, it teases and plays with the ear. Rez’s music is influenced by East and West and as you will see and hear in this interview his blend is sublime.
Please enjoy our presentation of Rez Abbasi.
