Jazz guitarist Vince Lewis continues his JGT Arrangement Series with “Secret Love” – a huge hit for vocalist Doris Day – written in 1953 for the Musical Calamity Jane.
“Secret Love” has been covered by multiple Jazz and Pop Artists since it premiered, and remains one of the staples of The Great American Songbook.
This arrangement is a good one for the Intermediate chord melody player as well as the more advanced. The chord movement is very straight ahead and close and the shapes are pretty easy to handle. Any movement that is a little quick for the less experienced can simply be substituted with single notes or partial chords as long as the melody notes remain on top of the voicing.
