In this video, Davy Mooney explores the iconic Tom Jobim tune “Girl From Ipanema,” and argues that although it is perhaps overplayed, it is a brilliant example of Jobim’s harmonic genius. Mooney improvises over the tune in 7/4, with some subtle chord substitutions.
