Beth Marlis highlights guitar higher education and the incredible women who are guiding these prestigious programs.
Bob Bakert, Editor: From the start, Jazz Guitar Today has focused on institutions of higher learning with jazz guitar programs. However, we recognized that with the exception of a few articles, the great women of guitar were almost ignored. We knew that had to be addressed.
When Beth Marlis (jazz guitarist, guitar professor, former Guitar Dept. Chair GIT and current Vice President at Musicians Institute) and I spoke about her desire to publish a work on this very subject, I about fell out of my chair. We were getting two of our missions addressed by one of the preeminent Jazz guitar educators in the world and who is also a woman. Unbelievable how the universe works sometimes.
Beth Marlis
It is with extreme pride we publish this extraordinary work by Beth Marlis – which highlights both the guitar in higher education and the incredible women who are guiding these prestigious programs. You don’t need to play guitar to appreciate the significance of these women.
Please enjoy these articles and share them with everyone!
